The challenge: handling pallets at high altitude

RAJA Benelux, part of the RAJA Group and European market leader in packaging, faced a logistics challenge. With a 50,000 m² warehouse and more than 53,000 pallet spaces, the number of shipments is growing by more than 10% every year. At the end of 2022, the warehouse was expanded by another 20,000 m² to accommodate this growth.
The question: an efficient and space-saving solution to handle pallets up to 1400 x 1400 mm on the mezzanine floor.

The solution: pallet buffer conveyors with integrated turntables

Together with partner Easy Systems, Westover designed an innovative solution: a pallet buffer conveyor that integrates multiple turntables. This track makes it possible to transport, scan and correctly position pallets without operators getting in each other's way.
Thanks to a smart signal system with red and green lights, operators know exactly where pallets can be placed or retrieved. The system consists of a short and a longer buffer lane, which are used for supply and removal of pallets depending on the need. In addition, the system is modular so that future expansions can be easily implemented.

With the new pallet buffer conveyors, RAJA can safely and efficiently process thousands of pallets daily. Operators work independently, waiting times are minimized and the flow of goods is greatly improved. The system not only offers immediate time savings and increased productivity, but also scalability for the future.
